Matt & Kim
We speak to Kim, one half of girlfriend/boyfriend duet Matt & Kim about making music ahead of their first appearance in Spain.
Your second album was said to be a more mature and slick record - how did the making of it differ from your first one, did you approach it in a different way? We recorded the first album in a studio in Los Angeles. We only had a week to work on it. It was very rushed. For the second album we wanted to be able to have time to experiment and try what ever we wanted without being worried about money and how much it was costing us. We bought our own recording stuff and went to Matt's parents house in Vermont. We spent a few months up there and then came home and finished the recording in our apartment in NY.
You currently live in Brooklyn - is everyone there in some sort of band, is it the creative melting pot it appears to be? I feel like we hardly are home to know what is going on. Matt and I tour nine months out of the year. I would guess walking down Bedford Ave. that three out of four people are in a band. That is a joke... kind of.
Your videos always seem a little crazy and little home made, is that a deliberate aesthetic and where do you get your ideas from? Matt comes up with all our video ideas. We always look for an idea you can tell someone in one sentence. Simple is better!
If you weren't in a band, what do you think you would be doing instead? I have no idea... i can't fuck this band thing up.
What was the last track/album that you downloaded/bought/danced too? I just bought the new 50 Cent! There are so many albums coming out November 23rd. Can't wait for that day.
What other bands are you listening to at the moment? I have had Jay-z, Beyonce, T.I and Sean Paul on repeat
Who are your main musical influences? We are mainly influenced by top 40 hip hop and pop punk. Anything that is fun.
What are your current plans for the band? We are about to do this European tour and then we come home we are taking two weeks off for the holidays. Then we will start writing new stuff. It is funny how little time we have to work on music.
