The bus preparing for its first EVER journey from Barcelona to London. 8th July 2014.
Today Megabus embarked on its first trip from Barcelona to London. Since its beginnings in 2003, the Stagecoach company has been a leading budget transport group in the UK, and is still on its quest to broaden its horizons over mainland Europe.
Managing Director Elizabeth Esnouf was in the city earlier today to launch the new route (via Toulouse and Paris), which is set to be one of their most biggest routes due to the popularity of all stop-offs.
Elizabeth explains, “Barcelona has all the characteristics that make for a great Megabus destination, and with the close connection to Toulousse university, the route fits our kind of demographic in the UK- mainly students, and young people wishing to travel on a budget. The plan is to start in Barcelona and hopefully expand into other cities across Spain.”
Megabus market themselves as offering intercity trips from as little as €1. Esnouf commented that around 10 percent of the passengers on each journey receive this offer on a first-come, first-served basis. A journey between the cities has a typical price of around €10 each way.
As of today, Meagbus will be leaving daily from the Estación del Nord at 4pm, and is expected to arrive in London Victoria station at 6pm the following day. Although a killer journey of over 24 hours, Megabus says a bunch of new buses have been added to the fleet, some of which are equipped with ‘bed’ seats and some even offer an onboard breakfast to kick-start your morning. The return journeys leave Victoria station at 10.30am, and arrive to Barcelona at 11.55am the following morning.
