Tablao de Carmen, in Poble Espanyol ¨Spanish Village¨ of Montjuich, combines talented flamenco artists with dinner and drinks in an Andalusian-style amphitheatre. The show, the venue and the atmosphere transports audience members to another world.
Tablao de Carmen pays tribute to the great flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya, who was born in 1913 in Somorrostro, where migrants from southern Spain settled in Barcelona before the 1929 International Exposition. Amaya made her debut in 1929 before King Alfonso XII on the Patio de Carmen, which is part of Tablao de Carmen today.
The flamenco show at Tablao de Carmen maintains the traditions of the style and presents an authentic experience, highlighting several of the most representative palos (rhythms) of flamenco, so that spectators can truly get to know the richness and variety of the art form. The show also allows for improvisation, encouraging the dancers and musicians to express themselves freely at times.
Nowhere else in Barcelona brings the essence of flamenco alive quite like Tablao de Carmen.
