Located behind the central University of Barcelona, the Seminari Conciliar is a neo-medieval and predominantly neo-Romanesque style building, the work of Elías Rogent, which currently houses the Faculty of Theology of Catalunya and the Faculty of Philosophy of the Ramon Llull University. It also has the Episcopal Public Library of Barcelona and the Geological Museum of the Seminary of Barcelona.
The Museu de Geognosia i Paleontologia del Seminari Conciliar de Barcelona was inaugurated in 1882 under the direction of the canon and professor of Geology and Paleontology, Jaume Almera. He was one of the most relevant naturalists from the scientific panorama of the city during the second half of the 19th century and the first third of the 20th. Among other things, he promoted the creation of the Geological map of Catalunya. The museum occupied a roomy hall of 17.5 meters long by 11.5 meters wide in which were exhibited a great variety of natural objects.
