Situated between the gasometer and the Olympic Marina, Somorrostro is one of the easiest to reach either by walking and biking.
Though it's a beautiful sandy beach now, up until the mid 20th century it was the site of a shanty settlement that was home to over 15,000 people. Carmen Amaya, the most famous flamenco dancer of all time, was born here. Although originally part of Barceloneta beach, in 2010 the city council renamed it Somorrostro in memory of the humble settlement that once stood on this part of the Barcelona coast.
Beach services include lifeguards, local police, a beach information point, adapted showers, adapted public toilets, children's play area, beach library, sun loungers, changing rooms, beach umbrellas, drinks and ice cream kiosks, bicycle parking areas, restaurants and Wi-fi.
