The KineMez Physiotherapy Centre uses a technique developed by French physiotherapist, Françoise Mézières. Treatment is carried out one on one, and uses active stretching exercises to improve posture and rebalance muscles and joints. The aim of the method is to maintain strength and flexibility whilst preventing future injuries and alleviating pain.
The Mézières method addresses the primary cause of muscular-skeletal problems and is among the most efficient and lasting approaches for treating back pain and other muscular-skeletal pain. As an added bonus, weak muscles such as the abdominal and front of thigh muscles are naturally strengthened. The method combines subtle techniques, including specific postures, breathing, and hands-on treatment by the therapist. It is designed to counteract the way the body compensates for muscle tensions, which can lead to pain and impede natural movement.
A treatment session at KineMez involves postural massage, which promotes overall relaxation of the muscular system and addresses painful points. Alongside these static techniques, dynamic exercises are integrated into treatment, which work with the natural movement of the body to regain a sense of balance and wellbeing. Body awareness exercises are also used to stimulate connections between sensory receptors in the brain and muscular system, improving the harmony between body and mind.
The number of sessions necessary to treat your problem depends on a variety of factors including genetics, degree of injury and environmental factors – but generally speaking, the higher your goals, the more sessions it will take to achieve them. These factors will be taken into account when establishing a programme, which will be set up on your first visit. Each treatment session lasts about one hour at a frequency of one session a week. Depending on developments, the sessions will go on to be spaced once every 15 days, and then monthly.
The Mezieres Method is useful for anyone suffering from musculo-skeletal problems, but can also help your general fitness, as other muscles will feel the benefits of your re-aligned body. The method does not use strong manipulations; is not a massage treatment even though different types of massage may be used as an auxilliary technique.
KineMez also uses a new generation of 3D postural measurement called ADiBAS, a new health technology created in Barcelona. ADiBAS is the most advanced postural analysis software, designed for physiotherapists and doctors, which establishes the body´s asymmetries and allows for safe and effective posture alterations.
