Can Galta Cremat was a modernista factory built in 1896 and operated during the golden years of the Catalan textile industry, specializing in the production of cotton and wool. There were mechanical looms, looms for corduroy, machines for starching and spinning and even areas for dyes and woven fabrics. It was a modernista-style building, which had an exposed-brick outer wall with geometric decorations.
The chimney standing in the square is the only thing left of the factory which, since 1998, has been called Can Galta Cremat (the factory’s nickname).
