Akua School is a trilingual school accredited by the Generalitat de Catalunya, catering to children aged three-18 years. It opened in 2016 as the first educational project run by Fundación Akua, a non profit organisation dedicated to supporting social change through education. The Foundation is built upon three pillars; educational scientific research, entrepreneurship in social projects, and dissemination of the new educational model, the Pedagogy of Talent.
The school is also the only accredited Montessori nursery and primary school in Barcelona, which employs a child-centred approach to education. Personalised education and experiential learning are at the core of Akua, using small class sizes of a teacher-student ratio of 1:8-10 to ensure each child is taken care of. There are also many opportunities for children to engage in creative tasks, where real experiences and social interactions are believed to enhance their learning process. Staff at Akua also believe in giving children the freedom to make decisions and act autonomously, fostering their motivation and natural curiosity for learning.
Parents are encouraged to develop their relationship with the school through participation in regular meetups, activities, training sessions and pedagogical meetings. Akua intend to promote active participation of parents in their child's education, keeping them well-informed throughout their child's journey. The school grounds are also available after school hours for organising extra curricular activities, conferences, events and more.
