American School Barcelona Program
The American school program consists of accredited US curriculum courses for students from seventh to twelfth grades (ages 12 to 18 years old), which are the equivalent grades and ages in Spain for educación secundaria obligatoria (ESO) and bachillerato. The American school course schedule consists of six courses. Specifically, four core curriculum courses: English language arts, history and social studies, mathematics and science, and two elective courses (Click here for list). BHS offers AP courses as well. While the program is offered in-person in school classrooms, BHS does offer an Online High School Barcelona program option for those who can’t attend school in person.
At graduation, BHS students obtain an official American high school diploma from the US, which allows them to attend English speaking universities throughout the world, including in Spain and Europe, as well as in the US.

American Schools in Barcelona
The American school education system is considered the best international school curriculum in Barcelona. However, one of the biggest challenges for families in Barcelona is that until now, there have only been two quality American schools in Barcelona: American School of Barcelona (ASB) and Benjamin Franklin International School (BFIS). Here is the list of all 5 American schools in Barcelona that includes two other American schools: ES International and Gresol School. These two schools are located far outside of the city and simply not in the same class of schools as ASB or BFIS. While ASB and BFIS have historically been considered two of the best international schools in Barcelona, unfortunately, they are also the two most expensive schools in all of Barcelona. See ASB School Fees and BFIS School Fees. Another issue is that ASB and BFIS are not centrally located in Barcelona. But most importantly, they provide a traditional education model from the past although we now live in a modern and vastly changing new world. There are many traditional international schools in Barcelona to choose from, but the most innovative in its learning methodology based on the world that we live in today, is Barcelona High School.
