The wines of the Priorat comarca came to international attention in the 1990s and wine lovers around the world have taken notice. In celebration of the region's wine heritage, the village of Poboleda hosts a festival solemnizing the verema (grape harvest) with the Festa del Vi i la Verema a l'Antiga de Poboleda, highlighting the hard work, dedication and love that is behind each bottle of wine. Wineries of the Priorat DOQ come together to showcase not only the region's excellent wines, but the traditions of this ancient wine culture.

The festival pays tribute to the harvest as it was done in the past, starting bright and early with the ringing of the church bells at 8:00 and lasts until the wee hours of the next morning. The day is packed with all things wine related, starting with a walk form the town to the vineyard with mules and carts, an old-style breakfast of pa de pagès (country style bread) with sausage and bacon followed by the piada del raïm (stomping of the grapes). You'll see traditional plowing methods with mules, demonstrations on how draft animals are shod, and, of course there will be plenty of wine! Over 20 purveyors from the region will offer tastings of their best wines, providing an excellent opportunity to buy some of the most prized wines from the Priorat DOQ directly from the winemakers. The day also features an artisan market with local products, castells (human castles), workshops, live music, dancing and food trucks.
