Arriving without her husband for reasons that are at first unexplained, Anna enters the cozy world of a bourgeois family on holiday. In her mid-forties with no children of her own, Anna is unrelated to this extended family, which belongs to her old school friend Verena. Phone calls to her husband Alex reveal a rift in their marriage, hiding an unspoken sadness in both their lives. Anna rejects the company of the adults, in favor of the carefree teenagers. They seem to fill an empty space in her life.
