Truffle Fair in Centelles
to
Centelles 08540 Centelles
With the cold autumn and entry prelude to Christmas, as the tradition has been since 2008, the Truffle Fair is held the weekend before the Christmas break.
Truffles are found in the wild surrounding Centelles, its specific latitude, vegetation, height, soil and climate are highly suitable for the growth of this delicacy. In this area, there are two main varieties of truffles that are harvested: Tuber melanosporum or black truffle and Tuber aestivium or summer truffle.
There is evidence that truffles have been harvested in Osona since 1675, when they were sent from Vic to the house of the Viceroy of Catalonia in Barcelona. In the 1920s, Joan Soler, who lived in the main square of the town, was the first modern truffle dealer. The arrival of the road and railroad opened the door to a lucrative business and, in which Centelles always occupied a central place. In the late nineteenth century, the Centelles market price marked the reference price of truffles throughout the region.
The City Council of Centelles offers a dynamic cultural event where visitors can:
