The British band The Wave Pictures will review their extensive discography, full of milestones of lo-fi rock, full of attitude and inoculated against fleeting trends. Their latest release is the album When the Purple Emperor Spreads His Wings (2022).
The Wave Pictures began their career in 1998. Since then the British trio has not stopped: to the frenetic pace of their concert schedule they add a Stakhanovite record production, which progresses at the rate of almost one album per year. The pandemic made them slow down, although by May 2022 they were ready to make their comeback with the album When the Purple Emperor Spreads His Wings. With the guitar and voice of David Tattersall at the front—and in the rear the bass of Franic Rozycki and the drums of Jonny Helm—The Wave Pictures plays what Modern Lovers did in their day, only they perform it as if Rory Gallagher were their lead guitar.
With the label of lo-fi pop-rock as an affable sambenito, they never deny the maxim that places attitude before technique and are always inoculated against fashions. The years go by and they are still the same sly hooligans, only more sure of themselves, as well as more daring.
