When the clock strikes midnight on Christmas Eve, Clara, a brave and daring young woman, fights with toy soldiers and mischievous mice. Together with her prince, she travels to a wonderful world full of magic and fantasy, where she finds the inner strength that she did not know she had.
The Nutcracker is a musical icon and one of Tchaikovsky's most popular scores. It premiered on December 18th, 1892, at the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg, Russia, under the direction of Riccardo Drigo and choreographed by Lev Ivanov.
It has since evolved into an international Christmas tradition. Today, many of its numbers are part of our musical heritage: Waltz of the Flowers, Dance of the Reed Flutes, the March, the Russian Dance or “Trepak,” the Arabian and Chinese dances, the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and so many more. All are endowed with an energy and melodic freshness that bears witness to the composer's refined art.
The ageless theme of love, the clash between the forces of evil and beauty, the magical scenery, the sumptuous costumes and the matchless variety of the dances make this ballet a must: an invitation to flee from the real world and let ourselves be dazzled by dreams.
The Nutcracker transports us to a world of magic and dreams, fun and fantasy. This version will be staged with the choreography by Rodolfo Castellanos, and will follow the original script by introducing small changes in the dances of each country. The show at the Centre Cultural Terrassa will feature the PAR dance company, a new High-Performance Program (PAR) of continuous training for young dancers between 15 and 22 years old who want to make the leap to a professional career.
