Film still from Maite Alberdi 's "The Eternal Memory"
The Eternal Memory, Maite Alberdi (Chile, USA, 2023)
Maite Alberdi’s delicate approach to memory, both collective and individual, through a deep and sincere love story that has earned the nomination for Best Documentary at the 2024 Oscars. The documentary The Eternal Memory explains the poignant relationship between Augusto Góngora and Paulina Urrutia. Augusto is a prominent cultural journalist on Chilean television who stood out for his coverage during the Pinochet dictatorship; on the other hand, Paulina Urrutia is a renowned actress and former minister of culture. Their 25-year relationship is disrupted by Augusto’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
Alberdi collects this testimony as a vehicle to address the question of the collective memory of an entire country through the personal memories of an individual, with a dialogue between the reconstruction of memory and identity.
Film will be screened in original version, Spanish.
A film in the 2024 edition of the Brain Film Fest.
