The Boy and the Heron, Hayao Miyazaki (Japan, 2023)

Mahito, a twelve-year-old boy, faces the challenge of adapting to a new life away from the city after the loss of his mother. However, everything changes when an enigmatic heron reveals to him that his mother is still alive. When his aunt Natsuko disappears, Mahito enters a mysterious abandoned tower in search of both of them. What he doesn't know is that he is about to travel to another world.

In his most recent work, Miyazaki revives his fascination with the parallel universe of Lewis Carroll's Alice, something he had already masterfully explored in Spirited Away.

Recommended for children aged 10 and up.
