Winner of the prestigious Thelonious Monk award, pianist Tarek Yamani has shared the stage with figures such as Wayne Shorter, Richard Bona, Zakir Hussein, Esperanza Spalding, Antonio Sánchez, Brian Blade and Vinnie Coliauta. Born in Beirut, Yamani stands out for constantly playing with the boundaries between African-American, Arabic and electronic music.
Since he settled in New York in 2011, he has played as a leader or sideman in the most renowned clubs in the city including Lenox Lounge, Iridium, Smoke, Smalls, Cornelia Street Cafe, Bill's Place, The Stone, Le Poisson Rouge, Shapeshifter Lab, Nublu and 55 Bar. Among his discography, it is worth mentioning albums such as the magnificent Ashur (2012) and Lisãn Al Tarab (2014), recorded as a trio (piano, double bass and drums) and Peninsular (2017), as a sextet.
Yamani will perform at the Jamboree thanks to his residency at the Laboratori d'Arts Contemplatives, a creative refuge for artists and thinkers from all over the world located in Tavertet, within the framework of a broad project of reflection on art, creativity, philosophy and technological progress.
