Coleman has only performed once at the festival, in 1998, but his influence and the movement he created, M-Base, have been present year after year. Coleman and his Five Elements are musicians of unique intensity, researchers of all kinds of more or less esoteric languages. They are, above all, an unstoppable rhythm machine that can relentlessly take the listener from one place to another. With the voice and words of Kokayi, Jonathan Finlayson on trumpet, Anthony Tidd on electric bass and Sean Rickman on drums, Steve Coleman's alto sax promises a night of visceral jazz: expect the unexpected.
