Silver Haze, Sacha Polak (Netherlands, 2023)

This film is an intense drama that orbits around themes and concerns of absolute importance, such as mental health, revenge and forgiveness among the younger generations. Following the daily life of Franky, a young woman who suffered serious burns from a fire as a child, you see the physical and mental effects that this experience caused her, as well as the complicated family situation she lives in. A small hope of reconnecting with herself appears when she meets Florence, a young woman admitted to the hospital where she works for a suicide attempt. The relationship between them will become closer as they share the concerns and fears that they both harbor, serving as support for each other.

Revenge and guilt work as a pretext in Polak’s film to highlight the great importance of mental well-being as a way to find forgiveness for others but also for oneself.
