Shoes and Idle Wives, Lois Weber (USA, 1916)
A portrayal of the reality and tragedy of a shop assistant, Shoes is a plea for women's equality in a context in which women's suffrage in the United States was still a political goal to achieve. Made in the most significant period of Lois Weber's work, dedicated to social problems (1914-1921), it stands out for its courageous positioning and realistic treatment.
The session includes a screening of Weber's film Idle Wives, a meta-cinematographic exercise in which the protagonists watch films about their own lives, but with moralizing lessons that make them change their attitude—an incomplete film of which only two reels have been preserved.
The films are silent with Spanish intertitles.
