After having established herself in a few years as one of the newest figures on the current music scene, Sarah McCoy comes to Barcelona for the first time to present her second album, High Priestess.
An American singer, pianist and composer whose deep and powerful voice reveals painful cracks, McCoy made the leap to the European jazz and blues scene with Blood Siren (2019), her intimate and confessional debut album backed by pianist Chilly Gonzales and praised by the French press.
In her new work, the accomplished Paris-based singer-songwriter expands her compositional field beyond acoustic piano, incorporating modern, electronic and even futuristic sounds. Produced by Gonzales himself and veteran producer Renaud Letang, High Priestess marks a stylistic turning point in which Sarah McCoy expands her borders beyond blues.
However, she maintains the visceral writing that traveled with her from New Orleans and continues to amaze with the “diva-lioness” voice that characterizes her. If you close your eyes, you can hear influences from Nina Simone, Billie Holiday and Amy Winehouse.
