Santaferia is Chilean cumbia group created in Santiago in 2006. Its beginnings go back to when the band called La Familia Iskariote joined some new members to finally form Santaferia. Its name alludes to the diversity of fairs in the world.
They play a new Chilean cumbia in a style they call "homemade cumbia," combining elements in a fusion of cumbia, Argentine cumbia villera, and other Latin American styles. They differ from cumbia villera because of the themes addressed, mainly the popular world, from the drunkard, soccer and the fans, love and heartbreak. Two of the best-known themes are "sariajuana" and "sákate 1" that address the issue of marijuana use. Also on the first album is the song "Don Satán" which refers to the president of Chile at the time Sebastián Piñera and as a protest against how things are done in the country. The band is known for the energy and authenticity that it shows on stage.
