The best boleros are written when your heart is broken. And everyone knows that 22 years is long enough for that to happen. What probably doesn’t happen so often is that it is done from a sofa in a student flat in Barcelona at 4:00 in the morning and that those four lines in a notebook end up being heard all over the world.

Rita Payés is much more than just boleros. Jazz and bossa nova come together with a naturalness only befitting the most experienced musicians. Undoubtedly, the singer from Vilassar is one of the great musical discoveries of Catalunya, a voice that seems destined to become an international reference in song.

The union of a mother and daughter armed with classical guitars has resulted in Como la piel, the first album by Rita Payés. All the family’s talent has gone into 11 songs of her own composition, and has already led Elisabeth Roma to tour with her daughter in different European capitals.
