Restoration of Miró's Star
to
CaixaForum Barcelona Av. de Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia 6-8, 08038 Barcelona
See, in person, the live restoration of the tapestry that Joan Miró and textile artist Josep Royo created for La Caixa in 1980. As you observe the restoration, you'll gain an understating for how environmental conditions affect the tapestry fibers and learn the story behind the Miró star that forms its logo.
In the seventies, Joan Miró and Josep Royo created seven monumental tapestries, one of them for La Caixa that would serve as the entity's corporate image. The result was a five-pointed star accompanied by two stars that, with an eternal, universal and dynamic language, represents the organization's cultural and social values.
In November 1980, the tapestry was exhibited at the Casa Macaya Cultural Center in Barcelona. Today, after 41 years, we contemplate it again and discover, for the first time, the back of the tapestry. The exhibition evaluates the technique and the work of the team of collaborators of La Farinera, formed mainly by women, the unknown protagonists of the piece.
Tapestry restorers will be working from March 29 to April 22 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 16:00 to 18:00 and Tuesday and Thursday, from 16:00 to 17:00. During this period, there will be an educator available to answer questions about the exhibition.
