Ramona Hovarth & Nicolas Rageau
Mas i Mas Festival
to
Plaça Reial Plaça Reial, Barcelona
Drawing on George Enescu's Impressions d'enfance suite, pianist Ramona Horvath and double bassist Nicolas Ragueau reflect on the influences of classical music on jazz and, at the same time, the impact of jazz on classical composition.
Impressions de voyage en jazz, the title of this concert, reviews a set of pieces by Debussy, Ravel, Fauré, Enescu and by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. Ramona Horvath is, according to Jazz Hot magazine, "one of the most original pianists of Parisian jazz." As its creator, she presents a varied range of influences: from Ellington to traditional music from the East, passing through be bop and the American songbook.
Nicolas Rageau is an excellent Parisian double bass player who started his career in New York, where he lived for many years. He has worked with Benny Golson, Johnny Griffin, Alain Jean-Marie, Grant Stewart, Peter Bernstein, Joe Magnarelli and many more. Horvath and Ragueau have recorded three albums together, in different formats. The most recent, Le Sucrier Velours (2019), was rated “Excellent” by the newspaper Liberation. Another publication, Les Dernieres Nouvelles de Jazz, spoke of this duet as a "perfect osmosis."
