In a single take in her apartment at the Chelsea Hotel in New York, Shirley Clarke paints a fascinating portrait of Jason Hollyday, an African-American homosexual aspiring cabaret artist. For twelve hours in a row, under the progressive ingestion of drugs and alcohol, he exposes himself and overexposes himself in front of a camera that captures him with unusual authenticity. Ingmar Bergman called it the most extraordinary film he had ever seen.
