Born in London to a Spanish mother and Bulgarian father, and raised between the UK and Mallorca, Ona Mafalda's background has had a major influence on her music. In April 2021 she released her first EP in Spanish titled Bailando sin sentido which was critically acclaimed and established her as a promising Spanish pop artist. With a fascinating voice and emotional composition, Mafalda's music has been compared to that of established artists such as Lana del Rey and Florence and the Machine.
After advances such as the frenetic "Ya no quema," her stellar collaboration with the French pianist Sofiane Pamart on the melancholic "A otro lado," the fun and extroverted "Mala suerte" and the intimate "Mi parte," dedicated to her mother, Mafalda released her first studio album, Ona, a work full of sound nuances and pure sensitivity that gives rise to a very promising path.
The exquisite production comes from the hand of Oddliquor, in an album in which Mafalda has composed together with the singer Vicco. The three have been working hand in hand in the studio since day one. Although she only sings in Spanish, Mafalda has created a new sound of her own, inspired by references from Bulgarian and English music.
Deep house, drum and bass, melodic songs and even a kind of lullaby coexist on an album that shines on its own, full of experimentation in production and charismatic lyrics. A project that shows a much more confident and empowered artist, but at the same time vulnerable and unafraid of showing the most intimate part of herself.
