This key piece of African-American and feminist cinema filmed in 1980, was lost, recovered and reclaimed in recent years. Admired by Charles Burnett, Losing Ground is a fresh and complex study of a woman's emotional awakening in a troubled marriage. This semi-autobiographical film written and directed by Kathleen Collins (US, 1982) portrays an unstable marriage between a philosophy professor and a flamboyant, insensitive artist husband. When his wife sets out on a journey to find ecstasy, her husband sees her differently.
