As part of the Festes de la Mercè, the streets of Barcelona will once again be filled with runners ready to celebrate through sport the city’s main annual festival. Registrations to participate are now open.
The race offers several categories so everyone can participate according to their abilities and age. With the usual 10K route, La Mercè 10K Bimbo Global Race will start at 8:30 am on Avinguda Reina Maria Cristina and will go through the city center passing by such emblematic places as Avinguda Paral·lel, Passeig de Sant Joan and Plaça Universitat.
With the aim of eliminating barriers in sport and promoting everyone’s participation, the event again includes La Mercè 2K Inclusive Bimbo Global Race. This adapted category is run in conjunction with the 10K and is aimed at people over the age of 14 with intellectual disabilities or reduced mobility who are unable to complete a distance of 10 kilometers for physical reasons.
New this year is the Family Run, aimed at families who cannot or do not wish to run the main 10K race.
What to Do for La Mercè
Celebrated in the days surrounding September 24th, the La Mercè festival program is packed with things to do and see. From parades and exhibits filled with gegants (giants), capgrossos (bigheads) and fire-breathing beasts to giant castells (human towers), traditional dances, correfocs (fire runs), drone light shows, fireworks displays and free concerts, you're sure to find something to delight and amaze you.
But if all the festivities of La Mercè get to be a bit too much, why not take a culture break? Many of the city’s museums observe the holiday with a jornada de portes obertes (open doors). To make the most of your time, take a look at our interactive map with all the locations that are throwing open their doors for free: Map of Barcelona Museums with Free Entry for La Mercè.
