Giacomo Puccini created La Bohème in 1896, a four-act opera that premiered on February 1, 1896, in Teatro Regio, Turin. Based on the book Scenes from Bohemian Life by Henri Murger, Puccini's La Bohème, tells the tragic love story a poor poet and an equally poor seamstress in 19th century Paris. La Bohème started life as a novel that then became a play and finally an opera, which had initially received cool reviews but was welcomed by audiences when it was first performed in 1896. The story shows vignettes of bohemian youths who lived in the Latin Quarter of Paris and focuses on relationships, characters and lovers.
