It's easy to overlook the fact that, despite only three solo albums in 18 years, José González has sold out venues from Sydney to Tallinn—via Berlin, Barcelona and Rio de Janeiro—and even sold out the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London, with capacity for more than 4,000 people. He has gone platinum in the United Kingdom and his home country of Sweden, as well as gold in Australia and New Zealand. He also has billions of views on digital platforms. Of course, these matters aren't things José himself considers: since he first arrived with debut single Crosses back in 2003, both he and his music have remained calm and unpretentious.
