Based on a donation from the Brigitte and Hans Robert Thomas Collection, this exhibition proposes a rich dialogue between two of the greatest exponents of Catalan abstract art in the second half of the twentieth century, Joan Claret (Barcelona, 1929–2014) and Joan Vilacasas (Sabadell, 1920–2007), members of the group 0 Figura (1960–1963), which they cofounded along with Tharrats, Hernández Pijuan and the art critic Santos Torroella, and was based at the Sala Gaspar. This group’s activities played a decisive role in the process of consolidating abstract currents in Catalunya and both artists were prominently involved. Whilst each artist’s work is well-renowned in its own right, there are important parallels between their careers which give rise to an intense dialogue between Vilacasas’ planimetries and Claret’s kinetic art. For this reason, they aroused the interest of the German collectors Brigitte and Hans Robert Thomas, who followed the artists for nearly half a century and compiled a collection of over two hundred of their works, which they have now donated to Fundació Vila Casas.
