IT Dansa, the young dance company of Barcelona's Institut del Teatre, is back at with its characteristic energy and enthusiasm. Formed in 1996 as the upshot of a teaching project and its aim is to help young dancers perfect their technique and become professionals.
The repertoire includes Twentyeight Thousand Waves, by Cayetano Soto, a dancer from the first IT Dansa class and currently an internationally renowned choreographer. The piece was inspired by the average number of hits a tanker receives from sea waves—which is twenty-eight thousand a day—as a concept to talk about resilience, life and death, and the capacity for survival.
Biterna is a choreography created especially for the opening show of the 33rd Dansàneu, The Festival of Cultures of the Pyrenees of the Àneu Valley, by dancer and choreographer Aleix Martínez. The title of the piece refers to the imaginary place where, according to medieval belief, witches would gather to worship the devil.
Minus 16, by Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin, traverses music genres such as cha-cha-cha, mambo, and popular Israeli songs. The piece quickly transitions through various moods, from joy to despondency, from intimacy to group fun.
Under the direction of Catherine Allard, the young dancers of IT Dansa offer a show full of vitality and great artistic quality that will thrill the Auditori de Sant Cugat. A lively and dynamic program with a very contemporary and attractive language capable of awakening an interest in dance in anyone.
