Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004) is one of the most famous photographers of the 20th century. As a photojournalist, art and portrait photographer, he created timeless compositions and shaped the style of later generations of photographers. With his talent for finding the “decisive moment,” he captured spontaneous encounters and situations and became one of the most important representatives of street photography.
Organized in collaboration with the Bucerius Kunstforum in Hamburg, this exhibition offers a wide-ranging and in-depth look at the co-founder of the legendary Magnum photographic agency. In addition to early photographs and surrealist-influenced cinematographic works, as well as political photo reportage, his portraits of well-known artists and writers are also on display, as well as his later photographs, focusing on everyday scenes.
The exhibition consists of 240 original copies, as well as a careful selection of his publications in magazines and books, of great interest to understand his career between 1930 and 1970.
