Being sent to her room by her parents in her not so distant high school years (she was born in 1999) was not exactly a punishment for Maria Ulven: there, in her bedroom, she had everything she wanted. The GarageBand and a cheap microphone were enough for her to make the homemade pop songs that she would later post on SoundCloud with the alias Girl in Red. Since she thought no one would ever listen to them, she sang freely about what was happening to her. That she couldn't continue to be friends with her best friend because she had fallen in love with her, that the idea that tomorrow there will always be a new day to face sometimes overwhelmed her, that she didn't want to date boys even if it was what she "should" do. She did not expect her bedroom to be too small for her any time soon; but a few million teenagers ended up sneaking into it because her music also talked about them too.
