New Yorker George Cables is considered one of the great pianists of modern jazz, with a glorious career that includes recordings and performances with Joe Henderson, Woody Shaw, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, Dizzy Gillespie and a significant list of totemic drums: Art Blakey, Max Roach, Roy Haynes and Tony Williams. He has also been one of the most renowned pianists in two historical quartets: Dexter Gordon and Art Pepper. Cables is without a doubt a true jazz legend, a musician who left the classical and embraced jazz imbued with the fact that it is the expression of struggle and freedom of the African American people. A trained hard-bopper, Cables has always been interested in the evolution of jazz and young musicians. At this year's festival he performs with a group led by Italian Piero Odorici, a saxophonist with an extensive and brilliant resume.
