Geisha Samurai Memories of Japan
to
Palau Martorell Carrer Ample 11, 08002 Barcelona
For the first time, the Palau Martorell will host an exhibition that does not focus on a single artist, but on an entire culture: Japan, whose rich history and traditions have aroused the interest of the West for centuries. Its elegance, subtlety and beauty, as well as its hardness, sacrifice and discipline, are reflected in the figures of the geisha and samurai.
Curated by Ferran López Alagarda, president of the Spanish Federation of Antique Dealers, the exhibition will feature more than 150 works, including period woodcuts, calligraphy, armor, kimonos, katanas, perfumery objects, fans and netsukes (miniatures), as well as a selection of unpublished photographs. These pieces will be distributed in different sections on the two main floors of the Palau Martorell. The Palau Martorell will open its doors to present this captivating exhibition of Japanese art in Barcelona, paying a well-deserved tribute to one of the most influential and fascinating cultures of our time. From the deep-rooted interest in manga to the profound influences of oriental art in Europe, with a special emphasis on modernism in Barcelona itself, this exhibition is a vibrant tribute to the diversity and cultural richness of Japan.
