Adaptated from the play by Christopher Hampton, which was in turn adapted from the epistolary novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, Les Amistats Perilloses participates in the two great literary traditions that characterize the end of the 18th century: the Rousseaunian novel and the story of the libertine.

Set in the circle of the French aristocracy shortly before the Revolution of 1789, the perfumed and secretive characters Marquise de Merteuil and the Viscount de Valmont, live only to seek pleasure and manipulate others.

This conceptual and brilliant film lays bare the mechanisms of desire and sentimental manipulation, and features a brilliant performance by Glenn Close. See it screened at the Filmoteca de Catalunya.
