Under the musical direction of Dani Espasa, travel through the virtuosity of the viola, from the last of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos, No. 6, written for two solo violas and chamber orchestra, to the modern reference of these concertos, the Kammermusik of his modern compatriot Paul Hindemith, this time No. 5 for solo viola.
In the middle is the classical concerto by Austrian composer Franz Anton Hoffmeister, who wrote so brilliantly for this instrument.
This program features two viola soloists from the Liceu orchestra: Alejandro Garrido and Albert Coronado.
The Constellations Series
This season, the Liceu starts Constellations, a new series of chamber orchestra concerts to highlight the many talented musicians in the Liceu orchestra, allowing them to showcase their virtuosity and let the audience connect their faces and their art. This first installment features virtuosos of an instrument that is infrequently seen as a solo instrument in the concert world—the viola.
