CLAM International Social Film Festival 2024
to
Since 2004, the International Social Film Festival in Catalunya (CLAM) has promoted and showcased the values of solidarity, human rights and civil rights through the art of cinema.
The festival’s aim is to focus on high-quality film committed to real life, serving as a point of reflection and debate on social issues. This year, the festival celebrates its nineteenth birthday, something synonymous with maturity and coming of age.
Numerous film screenings focused on solidarity (both short films and feature films) are complemented by parallel activities from a range artistic and cultural disciplines, including lectures, conferences, exhibitions, professional master-classes, theater performances and concerts.
The 2024 program has not yet been announced, but read on for last year's highlights.
2023 Festival Program Highlights
20 Days in Mariupol, Mstyslav Chernov (Ukraine, 2023).
The festival opened with the Spanish premiere of Mstyslav Chernov's 20 Days in Mariupol (Ukraine, 2023) which draws on Chernov’s daily news dispatches and personal footage of his own country at war. It offers a vivid, harrowing account of civilians caught in the siege, as well as a window into what it’s like to report from a conflict zone. It's an extraordinarily courageous work that serves as a strong reminder of the need for independent journalism.
Other films on the program included Anatomy of a Fall (France, 2023), Arthur Harari and Justine Triet's courtroom drama that sees a woman suspected of her husband's murder, and their blind son is faced with moral dilemma as the sole witness; Kokomo City (USA, 2023), D. Smith's gritty documentary that tells the perilous and raw stories of four Black transgender sex workers through intimate and candid interviews; Club Zero (France, UK, 2023), Jessica Hausner's psychological thriller portraying a teacher at an elite school who forms a close bond with five students that ends up taking a dangerous turn; and Tran Anh Hung's historical romantic drama La Passion de Dodin Bouffant (France, 2023), starring Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel, is an exquisitely shot foodie film that tells the story of Eugenie, an esteemed cook, and Dodin, the fine gourmet she has been working for over the last 20 years. And, many, many more...
