José R. Pascual-Vilaplana conducts the band in their traditional Christmas Concert, featuring a selection of original music for wind orchestra written at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st centuries.
This program, predominantly featuring American composers, has a truly festive feel. The concert opens with Celebration by British composer Philip Sparke, followed by the award-winning Fanfare and Allegro by Clifton Williams, and A Celebration Overture by film composer Bruce Broughton.
The night will also include the first performance of Dark Life of the Night Girl, a work for narrator and concert band by composer Theresa Martin that tells the story of a little girl with a rare skin disease that makes exposure to the sun fatal.
Then follows a collection of pieces with a Christmas theme, including Fantasia for Christmas, arranged by Elliot del Borgo, and Gloria and The Night before Christmas, by Randol Alan Bass. Finally, the concert would not be complete without the Nadales Catalanes (Catalan Christmas Carols) by Salvador Brotons.
