Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota (Osaka, 1972), heir to Ana Mendieta and an entire generation of feminist artists of the early 1970s, is internationally known for creating enigmatic and contemplative installations made with wool. Her work explores the exchange between presence and absence, and the relationship between the past and the contemporary through the act of weaving.
She has been invited to create an installation in the exhibition spaces of the Fundació, with the aim of establishing a direct dialogue with Tàpies’ symbology and creating a game of correspondences and mirror effects that go beyond space and time. Her new exhibition attempts to untangle the complex dynamics between the past and present, real life and memory.
