For more than forty years, El Papiol has been celebrating the cherry harvest to thank the earth for its fruits.
In the last years of the 19th century, the phylloxera plague that affected the grape vines of Catalnya caused many farmers to change crops and opt to grow cherries. To celebrate a particularly good harvest, El Papiol organized the first annual Cherry Festival in 1983 in gratitude for the prosperity that this fruit brought.
Organized by the Papiol Farmers' Association in conjunction with the Town Hall, it began as a farming festival and has grown over the years into a fair. Cherry cultivation is now a part of the town's identity, and in addition to the cherry, other local agricultural products and artisan culinary delights can be found at the fair along workshops and children's activities.
