Charlie Cunningham has become a true success story, racking up over half a billion views and approaching his 500th performance. In the UK he has headlined the iconic Queen Elizabeth Hall, while abroad his fan base hasn't stopped growing; he has become a regular at the most prestigious venues and festivals in Europe. It's easy to understand his broad appeal; dividing his time between melancholy piano and the insistent pulse of nylon-string guitar, Charlie delivers character-packed songs that are both understated and joyously expressed. Add to this his warm and evocative voice, and you get something timeless and exhilarating.
The Briton has a very direct relationship with Spain, having lived in Seville for two years. During his stay, he wanted to understand the peculiarities of flamenco. He immersed himself in the culture, watched documentaries, went to tablaos and spent the day practicing the guitar. "I think it takes a lifetime to become a professional guitarist, but I learned a lot while living there," says the musician.
Charlie Cunningham returns to the stage with Frame, his most ambitious album to date. Frame sees Charlie expand his singer-songwriter roots with an album of lush, delicate songs brimming with balanced references to art rock, golden age jazz and neoclassical composition, all while maintaining his masterful musicianship, spare and clear.
