Valls is the capital of the calçot and of the calçotades, which has its grand festival on the last Sunday of January when the streets are invaded by lovers of this popular food with several traditional events and popular competitions.

The Gran Festa de la Calçotada, which has been taking place for more than a hundred years, is a festive, popular and promotional day event for the calçot. The streets and squares in the center of Valls fill with people who want to savor this traditional delicacy. The day includes a varied program of traditional and festive events and competitions related to calçots.

There are parades, char-grilled calçot roasting demonstrations and the famous competitions for local growers to discover who produces the best calçots; the preparation of the calçotada sauce and, finally, eating them. Various restaurants in Valls and the district collaborate in the festival and serve special menus on the day of the festival.
