Brain Film Fest 2024
to
Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) Carrer de Montalegre 5, 08001 Barcelona
“The ages of the brain”—or how the human brain changes and transforms over time—is this year's theme, featuring films that reflect on the changes the brain undergoes at each moment in our lives, as well as how this results in different emotional states, perceptions, feelings and disorders.
The ages of the brain and its relationship with the development and evolution of the human species has always been an object of study, and has inspired meters and meters of film. This year's sessions will talk about the brain and the emotions of infants and adolescents, of the difference between ageism and ageing and how we treat the elderly, of the various ways the brain matures depending on biological gender and of the world of menopause, as well as the challenges posed by artificial intelligence and how it can help us to decipher the brain's biological age.
Program
Witness love and loss in Maite Alberdi's poignant documentary The Eternal Memory (Chile, USA, 2023), a moving film that tells the story of deep, sincere love and a 25-year relationship disrupted by an Alzheimer’s diagnosis; immerse yourself in a world where the thin line between health and obsession blurs in Jessica Hausner's Club Zero (France, UK, 2023); join a close-knit, cheeky group of friends that has met once a month for decades as they grapple with the sudden absence of one of them in Maite Alberdi's Tea Time (La Once) (Chile, 2014); examine the challenges of mental health experienced by astronauts in Ido Mizrahy's insightful documentary The Longest Goodbye (Isreal, Canada, 2023); and dive into an intense drama that orbits around themes of mental health, revenge and forgiveness among the younger generations in Sacha Polak's Silver Haze (Netherlands, 2023).
And that's just the beginning! The festival features screenings of 17 feature-length films and several short films from a variety of countries, alongside a program of talks, workshops and round-table discussions.
