BioDiverCiutat is part of The City Nature Challenge, a friendly international competition in which cities around the world compete to report the greatest number of biodiversity observations. Each city is protected by a research or naturalist entity; in Barcelona, the event is organized by the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC).
The aim is to record the maximum number of species possible during four consecutive days: from the 26th through the 29th of April, documentation can be done by taking pictures with your phone or camera and uploading them to the MINKA platform. The open data collected will then be used for management and research purposes, encouraging collaboration and shared knowledge about biodiversity. After the four-day period, the cities will be ranked worldwide.
BioDiverCiutat also offers a selection of activities over the four days, including snorkelling, scuba diving, guided tours and photography courses.
