International Jazz Day in Barcelona celebrates the universality of jazz. You'll find almost 10 hours of music with six groups that represent the diversity of jazz, with artists from the Barcelona scene as well as musicians from South Africa, Brazil, the United States and the United Kingdom.
The day starts with the Sant Andreu Dixie Band, a formation born within the Sant Andreu Jazz Band that reinterprets the jazz of its origins, from New Orleans to swing, followed by a trumpeter with one of the most delicate sounds on the European scene, Joan Mar Sauqué, who will present his second album in trio formation for the first time. Las de Barcelona, a cooperative group made up of Magalí Datzira, Eva Fernández, Lucía Fumero and Juan Rodríguez Berbín, will offer their particular review of jazz and related music, especially of Latin American origin.
Michael League, founder and leader of Snarky Puppy, and Bill Laurance (also a member of Snarky Puppy) will present their exquisite duo album, Where You Wish You Were, produced in Catalunya. Another duo of impact is the one formed by the Brazilian mandolinist Hamilton de Holanda and the South African pianist Nduduzo Makhathini, who present their project Routes of Discovery, with which they explore the diaspora of African music in Brazil from the time of slavery to the present.
Finally, the International Jazz Day party will have a last vibrant date with the Balkan Paradise Orchestra that will say goodbye with its forceful energy to a day dedicated to jazz for all audiences in the middle of Barcelona.
It's a stimulating program of concerts is open to the public, turning Paseo de Gràcia into Paseo del Jazz.
