Avram Fefer/Sean Conly/Michael Wimberly Sound It Out NYC, November 10, 2018
From New York comes Avram Fefer, composer, improviser, conductor, teacher, performer of various wind instruments and one of the great names of contemporary jazz. As a leader, he has recorded close to fifteen albums and, as a sidemen, many more. He has played in the biggest clubs and festivals in Europe, Japan, Africa, the Middle East and, of course, the USA. He has worked with legends like Archie Shepp, Bobby Few, The Last Poets and David Murray. He has also participated in initiatives on the most alternative circuit in the city of skyscrapers, at the service of Ivo Van Hove and Melvin Van Peebles, in addition to collaborating regularly with the Burt Sugar Arkestra, by Greg Tate, and the Go: Organic Orchestra, by Adam Rudolph. On his own he leads an electronic jazz group, Rivers on Mars, and a jazz-funk band, Big Picture Holiday. In his groups he has had figures such as Eric Revis, Michael Bisio, Chad Taylor, Ben Allison, Michael Wimberly, Roy Campbell and, more recently, Marc Ribot. In Barcelona, where he has not stopped for years, he will play in the company of two of the best exponents of local jazz: Manel Fortià and Marc Ayza. A better combination would be impossible.
