Álvaro Torres Trio + Tony Malaby
Mas i Mas Festival
to
Jamboree Jazz Club Plaça Reial 17, 08002 Barcelona
After making his debut with Specious Present (2019), considered “one of the great albums of the year” (Núvol), the Madrid pianist Álvaro Torres released his second album a few months ago, Heart Is the Most Important Ingredient, with the prestigious New York label Sunnyside Records. He recorded it in Copenhagen together with the versatile and veteran drummer Kresten Osgood and the double bassist and sculptor Joel Illerhag, two greats of jazz and improvised music in Europe. Torres is “one of the most restless pianists of the new generations” (La Vanguardia); he lives and works in New York, after training at the Liceu Conservatory.
Torres defines this work as "a meeting point between improvisation and avant-garde jazz," with "music that evokes and makes us connect with human emotions." At Mas i Mas'23, the Álvaro Torres trio will have a guest of bells: Tony Malaby, a prominent member of the free improvisation and contemporary jazz scene in New York. Malaby, “a formidable soprano and tenor saxophonist with an enviable tone and an inexhaustible source of ideas” (Downbeat), has led various projects with Nasheet Waits, William Parker and Ben Monder.
